What Eyeglasses Are in Style Now?

Book Appointment

Eyeglasses have taken center stage as more than just a tool for visual correction. For some, they’ve become a fashion statement

Trends come and go, but personal style is ever-changing. At the end of the day, the most stylish glasses are the ones worn with confidence that make you feel good!

Like other areas in fashion, we’re seeing shifts in the general trends from previous years. Based on last year’s trends, some upcoming style predictions for glasses this 2025 can include:

  • Sustainable and eco-friendly frames
  • Multi-colored frames
  • Futuristic shapes
  • Personalizing eyewear

Trends We Loved in 2024

Creativity in 2024 encouraged experimentation and bold expression in terms of personal style. We saw several prominent trends with eyewear during this year.

Oversized Frames

Staying true to the quirky style roots of the 2010’s big, bold, and interesting shapes were everywhere. While our everyday dress skewed towards more minimalist and neutral choices, this encouraged us to be more experimental with our accessories, including glasses.

We saw more people moving away from traditional shapes like ovals and cat eyes and trying new shapes, like rectangles, dramatic squares, and even hexagonal shapes.

As a bonus, oversized frames provided greater lens coverage, offering a wider field of vision without as much obstruction from the frame itself, offering style along with practicality.

Bold frames give the appearance of looking “put together” without trying, making wearers feel effortlessly chic.

Transparent & Clear Frames

Minimalist, sleek, ultra-modern, and transparent frames remain a favorite among eyewear enthusiasts, especially in the wake of the 90s style comeback we’ve been seeing in clothing.

With the growing shift toward minimalist fashion trends, these frames became a go-to choice for those seeking understated elegance that could seamlessly complement any outfit. These frames became particularly trendy in rectangular, round, and unconventional geometric shapes.

Chunky Tortoiseshell Frames

Another beloved staple from the 2010s, these frames never fell out of style, but grouped with our love for bold, chunky frames and neutral colors, tortoiseshell frames made a resurgence in 2024.

This past year, designers reimagined this classic pattern by experimenting with bolder shapes, thicker frames, and unique color variations, not just limited to browns and neutrals.

Chunky tortoiseshell designs strike a balance between vintage charm and contemporary flair, making them a staple for many.

Gradient Lenses

Gradient lenses gained popularity because of their blend of style and functionality.

These lenses offer a chic, sophisticated look alongside the practical benefit of better visual comfort in varying light conditions.

The gradual tint allows wearers to read or look at screens clearly through the lower portion, while the darker upper section reduces glare from sunlight, making them ideal for indoor and outdoor use.

Gradient lenses are versatile and can be paired with any frame style of your choosing!

Upcoming Trend Predictions: 2025

The beauty and fun in trends is that they come and go. We find style inspiration in nature, history, and even food.

It becomes our mission to explore what we like and don’t, to find a balance between functionality and identity. We predict 2025 to bring a mix of nostalgia and future-forward aesthetics.

Sustainable & Eco-Friendly Frames

We’ve been shifting towards more sustainable practices in fashion, and eyewear is no exception.

Expect a rise in frames made from recycled materials or biodegradable plastics. Materials like bamboo and wood frames tap into a niche consumer market for those exploring unconventional aesthetics.

  • Why they’re unique: Sustainable glasses combine innovative materials with timeless designs, ensuring style and environmental consciousness go hand in hand.
  • What to look for: Lightweight, earthy tones, and muted finishes will be popular as they preserve the structural integrity of biodegradable materials, offering an effortlessly chic look.

Multi-Colored Frames

For the last few years, we’ve been seeing more neutral and minimalistic aesthetics. Now, we’re seeing growing discussion surrounding the importance of style and identity.

This is why we think customizations, like multi-colored frames, will become popular this year. Think dual tones, bold color-blocking, or even frames that change shades when exposed to sunlight.

Transparent and translucent frame styles in vibrant colors like emerald green, burnt orange, and sapphire blue will bring fresh and youthful energy to eyeglasses and sunglasses alike.

As fashion cycles lean into bold and playful aesthetics, multi-colored eyewear fits perfectly into the narrative. These frames align with the broader cultural push towards creativity and experimentation in personal style.

Futuristic Shapes

Our prediction for an increase in futuristic shapes in eyeglass frames comes from the growing influence of technology and avant-garde fashion.

We saw plenty of these themes in previous years with unconventional, geometric frame shapes.

This year we’re expecting to see more ultra-modern, angular designs reminiscent of science fiction aesthetics, with sharp cat eyes, V-shaped frames, and asymmetric lenses in eyeglasses and sunglasses.

What makes them so fun is their ability to transform a functional accessory into artistic expression. Futuristic frames allow wearers to make a daring style statement, showcasing their originality and playfulness while staying ahead of the fashion curve.

Personalizing Eyewear

A small trend worth mentioning, adjacent to frames and lenses, is personalizing eye cords and chains.

Building on recent trends of accessorizing, with personalized phone charms, charm necklaces, friendship bracelets, and purse charms, eyewear is becoming the next frontier for self-expression.

We’re predicting a small but rising trend where people are personalizing their eyeglasses using eye cords, adding retro beads and charms, and harnessing the rise of vintage aesthetics with unique flair.

Whether it’s adding a colorful beaded chain for a playful vibe or incorporating subtle metal charms for a touch of elegance, this trend echoes the desire to infuse individuality into everyday accessories.
