Since some eye conditions are asymptomatic in their early stages, it’s important to undergo regular eye exams and to know the signs that may indicate a visual health problem. In today’s post, your trusted family eye care provider, Park Slope Eye, shares the best ways to maintain your visual health:

Lead a Healthy Lifestyle

We recommend including eye-friendly foods, such as deep-water fish, citrus fruits, and leafy greens, in your diet. They contain high levels of vitamins and minerals that promote healthy eyes. We also suggest exercising regularly to ensure proper and adequate blood, oxygen, and nutrient delivery to your different eye structures.

Be Aware of Your Family’s Medical History and Know the Common Signs of Vision Problems

Heredity increases your risk of developing certain eye conditions, which is why it’s essential to be familiar with diseases that run in your family. This can also guide us when creating an appropriate preventative eye care plan. It’s also important to be able to identify any signs of vision changes, such as blurring or dimming of your eyesight.

Have Your Eyes Checked Regularly

The absence of obvious symptoms doesn’t guarantee you’re free from underlying vision problems. This is why we recommend having comprehensive eye exams at least once every one or two years. We’ll perform various tests to check your eyes for any irregularities. We combine our knowledge, experience, and advanced technologies to establish an accurate diagnosis and provide effective treatment.

Wear Proper Eye Safety  Gear

Whenever you’re participating in sports or high-hazard tasks, make sure to use safety eyewear to prevent eye injuries or other trauma. We suggest wearing polycarbonate lenses which are highly resistant to impact. Your trusted eye doctor also wants to emphasize the importance of wearing UV-blocking sunglasses whenever spending time outdoors. Even if it’s cloudy, UV rays can still penetrate your eyes and cause potential vision changes.
